Orange You 4 Safety? #orange4safety
BE PATIENT. Road construction is not there to personally inconvenience you
but to improve the roads for everybody.
STAY ALERT AND MINIMIZE DISTRACTIONS, such as changing the
radio station, using cell phone, or eating.
SLOW DOWN. Lights on. Pay attention to signs. Diamond shaped, orange
warning signs are posted in advance of construction activities.
MAINTAIN A SAFE DISTANCE between your vehicle and traffic barriers,
construction equipment, and workers, and increase the braking distance to the
car in front of you.
MERGE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Traffic flow and posted speeds can be
maintained if you don’t create a bottleneck. Watch out for changing traffic
patterns.
WATCH FOR AND OBEY THE FLAGGER. They have the same authority as
signals and signs and you can also be cited for disobeying them.
PAY ATTENTION TO POSTED SIGNS. Wait until you see the sign that states that you have left the work area to increase speed.
BE AN INFORMED MOTORIST. Plan ahead and try an alternate route. Most highway agencies have websites that alert to construction delays. For more information on national traffic and road closures, you can go to: U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
