John Gill, PE, PMP, LEED AP, SSOE’s Director of VDC, was recently published in Engineering News-Record (ENR) discussing the topic of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). Gill has over 20 years of industry experience and was responsible for the implementation of SSOE’s VDC program. He writes on the many strengths the VDC framework has to offer our industry, and offers some tips for implementing a solid foundation on your next project.
Gill shares his VDC acumen, contributing suggestions to successfully integrate a VDC project team, encouraging both collaboration and competence. Online project models allow for maximum results, displaying a 3D visual representation of the design, enhanced with data, from which all parties work. This technology is certainly an important component of VDC, but it is this theme of collaboration with integration from planning through construction — designers better understanding builders and vice versa — that make this framework so impactful to our industry.
