TOLEDO, Ohio, August 4, 2009—Jerry Carter, LEED® Accredited Professional and SSOE Inc., Senior Associate, along with Zach Platsis, Sustainable and Renewable Solutions Technical Specialist, will be featured presenters at the Toledo Public School Foundation’s “Engineering a Bright Future” event Thursday August 6, 2009 at the Main Library in Downtown Toledo’s Civic Plaza. The program runs from 5:30 to 8:00 pm.
The presentations are sponsored, in part, by The University of Toledo College of Engineering and SSOE Inc. This year’s focus is “Going Green II: Exploring Alternative Energy Sources.” To that end, SSOE’s alternative energy experts Carter and Platisis will share some of the most recent progress in the field of alternative energy. Their presentation, “Building Integrated Photovoltaics or BIPV,” will contain an overview of this growing area of alternative energy.
Integrated photvoltaics are solar collectors connected to buildings and/or structures and provide power from the sun. Today’s installations are often implemented in arrays – a series of solar modules placed on the ground or on a roof. BIPV endeavors to integrate solar collection into the structures.
