TOLEDO, Ohio, February 4, 2015 –The Toledo Society of Professional Engineers will hold its annual MATHCOUNTS® competition for students from 18 middle schools on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Over 160 students will be competing to advance to the state and national level contests.
MATHCOUNTS® is America’s only nationwide enrichment, coaching, club, and competition program that motivates and rewards middle school students for math achievement. Though challenging and non-routine, the competition problems focus on the 6th through 8th grade standards of the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics.

MATHCOUNTS® competitions are designed to be completed in approximately three hours. Each competition consists of four parts: the Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown rounds. The Sprint Round has 30 questions; the Target Round consists of 8 story problem questions, which are distributed to the students two at a time and the Team Round has 10 problems for the team to solve together. The top 16 individuals proceed to the Countdown Round, an oral round in which students compete one-on-one.
MATHCOUNTS® is a national math enrichment, coaching, and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement in every U.S. state and territory.
