CHICAGO, Illinois, April 25, 2025 –SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), an internationally ranked architecture and engineering firm, announced today that Nafis Hasan, CEng, a Structural Engineer based in the firm’s Mumbai, India office, will present at this year’s Lean Construction Institute (LCI) Lean in Design Forum. The event occurs April 30 – May 1, 2025, at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago, Illinois.
AI-Driven Structural Ingenuity
On Thursday, May 1, Hasan will present “Transforming Structural Engineering with AI: A Design Genie” at 3:00 p.m. CST. In this session, participants will explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in structural engineering, specifically focusing on Microsoft Copilot’s capabilities. Attendees will hear how SSOE has learned to leverage Copilot seamlessly, uploading and interpreting hand-drawn sketches and numerical data, solving software errors and verifying technical aspects, providing tutorials, automating tasks with Python scripts in Revit, and managing data in Excel. Hasan will also detail how the firm uses the AI-powered tool to reference and implement building codes, ensuring compliance, showcasing real-world applications, demonstrating structural calculations, and exploring member size options from the American Institute of Steel Construction.
With over a decade of experience, seasoned structural engineer Nafis Hasan has mastered the design and analysis of concrete, steel, timber, and cold-formed structures. Recently, Hasan has broadened his professional scope by contributing to diverse projects across the U.S. His upcoming presentation at the LCI Lean in Design Forum marks the culmination of his latest endeavor: integrating AI into structural engineering practices. Hasan has prepared insightful case studies that illustrate how AI can streamline and enhance everyday engineering tasks.
Hasan commented, stating, “Recent trends in AI have revolutionized many aspects of our lives, making tasks easier and more efficient. In the realm of structural engineering, AI is proving to be a game-changer. From solving complex numerical problems, pinpointing relevant code details, to acting as a personal tutor for technology software to troubleshooting issues, AI offers a multitude of positive and practical applications in real-world scenarios. This transformation is streamlining our workflows while ensuring compliance with building codes. As someone deeply passionate about the future of engineering, I am excited to share Copilot’s transformative potential in fostering Lean practices with AI, driving project efficiency, and sparking innovation. Looking ahead, I am excited about the endless possibilities AI holds for the future, from enhancing sustainability in construction to developing smarter, more resilient structures. The journey with AI is just beginning, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us.”
Since 2012, SSOE has leveraged its operations in India to blend global access with increased capacity, supporting its U.S. teams.
