ATLANTA, Georgia, August 10, 2023 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), an internationally ranked architecture and engineering firm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Architect Jakiel Sanders, AIA, NCARB, by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB) to serve as the Experience Committee Chair.
In his newly appointed role, Sanders attended the 2023 NCARB annual business meeting in Tampa, Florida, where he was able to learn about updates to NCARB’s programs and services as well as interact with members of registration boards from across the country as they voted on resolutions and the 2024 Board of Directors. He also attended the 2023 NCARB Licensing Advisors Summit in Kansas City, Missouri, a biennial event convening licensed advisors from across the country to discuss topics such as the latest updates to NCARB programs, the role of advisors in promoting equity in the profession, and strategies for the intentional supervision of licensure candidates.
Composed of the architectural registration boards of all states and territories, NCARB facilitates licensing and credentialing for architects in the United States. A member of the Experience Committee for four years and now entering his second term as chair, Sanders looks forward to engaging with his colleagues as they explore ways to advance the architectural profession by evolving the architectural experience requirement and promoting greater diversity, equity, and inclusion. This dynamic group is comprised of architects at various stages of their careers, licensure candidates, and educators who provide their perspectives across the profession pertaining to the development of competency to practice architecture.
Sanders first became involved in NCARB in 2019 when he was selected as one of 12 recently licensed architects to participate in the 2019-2020 ReThink Tank program, which engages participants to explore complex topics related to the value of licensure, shifts in practice, supervisor support, the evolution of the Architectural Registration Exam (ARE), and diversifying the architecture profession. Since then, he has continued to collaborate with fellow architects and other NCARB representatives—volunteering his time and knowledge to further the profession by examining NCARB policies, steering initiatives, and making recommendations for improvement—to ultimately shape the architecture profession and protect the public.
SSOE Principal and Architectural Department Manager Kirk Marchisen commented on Sander’s recent appointment, saying, “Jakiel is an innovative, forward-thinking architect and a great asset to the SSOE team. He is the embodiment of SSOE’s vision—designing and building the future for our clients, colleagues, and communities. Jakiel’s passion for the profession is reflected in everything he does. From the way he interacts with our clients, through his designs, and in his outreach efforts through organizations such as NCARB, Jakiel always exemplifies professionalism. He continuously strives to elevate the profession and, as chair of the Experience Committee, I have no doubt he’ll continue to raise the bar within the architecture community.”
