BIRMINGHAM, Alabama, July 7, 2023 — SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), an internationally ranked architecture and engineering firm, is excited to announce the hiring of David Willoughby, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, as Architectural Business Leader within the firm’s Building Design Group. Willoughby will be based in SSOE’s Birmingham, Alabama, office and will report directly to Robby Aull, AIA, ACHA, Senior Vice President and Division Manager of the Building Design Group.
In his new role, Willoughby will be responsible for the growth of the firm’s architecturally focused group in Alabama. This includes client development, project management, and overall design excellence within SSOE’s core markets.
Willoughby has over 30 years of architectural experience and brings expertise in the design and development of projects in a wide variety of building types. He excels in building assessment, conceptual design and development, as well as preparing final construction drawings and specifications. He has performed programming, space planning, building design, document production, sustainable design, project administration, code reviews, specifications writing, and construction administration while also managing design teams on projects of all scales.
Aull commented on his hire, stating, “I’m excited to welcome David to our growing team in Alabama. He will bring a wide variety of building design expertise to our clients within the aviation, education, and governmental markets. I’ve worked with and known David for almost 20 years, and am confident in his abilities as a designer and team leader.”
Willoughby received his Master of Architecture from Texas A&M University and his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University. He is a registered architect in three states: Georgia, Ohio, and South Carolina.
