COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 2, 2024 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), an architecture and engineering firm named among the Top 2 Semiconductor Design Firms nationally for the past seven years by industry-leading Engineering News-Record, is excited to participate in and sponsor Semiconductor Day at The Ohio State University on April 9, 2024. Jointly hosted by the College of Engineering and SEMI—a global industry association comprised of companies involved in the electronics design and manufacturing supply chain for which SSOE has been a member since 2013—the event expects to draw more than 350 students from Ohio State in addition to students from local high schools.
Firm’s Semiconductor Experts ‘Chip’ping in to Help from Across the U.S.
SSOE will send some of its semiconductor experts, including those in basebuild, tool installation, and data / fire / security technology—with members of its talent acquisition team in tow—to lead various activities and engage with students. Chris Carroll, PE, Project Manager in the firm’s Basebuild Division, is traveling from the firm’s Advanced Technology hub in Portland, Oregon, for the event’s “Ask an Expert” showcase. During the “Day in the Life Theater” showcase, Mark Smith, Data / Fire / Security Technology Leader who works in SSOE’s Toledo, Ohio office, will share his career journey with students, which interestingly began in California during the semiconductor chip boom of the 1990s.
Also from Toledo, Mike Alek, SSOE’s Director of Talent Acquisition, will work with students one-on-one to refine their curriculum vitae during the “Resume Review” showcase. In addition, Clem Wood, Principal, Senior Vice President of Emerging Markets, who has a long history of semiconductor experience and tool install program management, will travel from Portland for the event, with Ryan Beagle, Mechanical Engineer in the firm’s Tool Install Design Division, making the jaunt from SSOE’s Columbus office to talk to students about a career in the semiconductor industry.
Wood shared, “While we’ve had an office in Columbus since 2008, one of four offices in Ohio and one of 20 offices globally, we’re now experiencing increased growth in the area due to our semiconductor expertise as manufacturers and suppliers set up shop there. Our Columbus-based talent has more than doubled in the past 18 months due to project demand and we anticipate that number will grow. As we continue to pursue work regionally, we need to bolster our resources and what better place to search than The Ohio State University. We’re looking forward to supporting projects that are bringing jobs to Central Ohio and attracting top talent to deliver those projects.”
Following Semiconductor Day, SSOE is bringing additional volunteers and staying on campus an extra day to participate in The Ohio State University College of Engineering Spring Career Fair in the Ohio Union Performance Hall on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
