New Hybrid Operating Room is First of its Kind in Macomb County
TROY, Michigan, November 15, 2018 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), a global project delivery firm for architecture, engineering, and construction management, is proud to announce that they provided architectural and engineering services to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital for their newly opened surgical department expansion project in Clinton Township, Michigan.
SSOE provided architectural, mechanical (HVAC and plumbing), electrical, and fire protection design services for this expansion. The project included a 1,000+ SF state-of-the-art hybrid operating room that converts to general surgery in minutes and six additional 800+ SF operating rooms capable of handling anything from orthopedic surgery to eye surgery—along with a separate cardiovascular operating and perfusion room—more than doubling the size of their previous operating spaces. Notably, the hospital’s new hybrid operating room is the first of its kind in Macomb County.
The expansion encompassed a combination of projects, leading up to the surgical department. Projects included relocating and expanding the Central Sterile Processing Department, Inpatient Pharmacy, Catheterization and Interventional Radiology Department, and Pre- and Post-Operative patient holding. The phasing of the projects was pivotal in maintaining a fully operational facility and, in turn, the development of a successful project.
In addition to the extra space, new technology, and functional upgrades, SSOE also incorporated large murals along the walls of the corridor featuring the beautiful Great Lakes State to enhance the patient experience.
SSOE has been a trusted team member to the Henry Ford Health System for over 20 years. In addition to this project, SSOE also provided A/E services for two other ‘first’ projects: the installation of the world’s first FDA approved commercially available linear accelerator (LINAC) based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided radiation therapy system at Henry Ford’s Medical Center – Cottage in Gross Pointe Farms, Michigan, and the Varian EDGE™ Radiosurgery System located at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. At the time of installation, this system was the first-of-its-kind EDGE radiosurgery LINAC in North America, second in the world.
SSOE’s highly trained and accredited healthcare team includes professionals who excel at all stages of healthcare projects—from strategic master planning, architecture, engineering, and interior design. SSOE has experience providing these services to all types of healthcare facilities including cancer centers, acute care hospitals, community hospitals, academic medical centers, specialty clinics, labs, and medical office buildings.
