Construction Commenced During the June Celebration of Construction Ceremony
SAN ANTONIO, Texas, August 12, 2021 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), a global project delivery firm for architecture, engineering, and construction management, was hired by Continental AG to perform engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services for their new 215,000 SF state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in New Braunfels, Texas. Operations are expected to start in the second half of 2022 and, once complete, the plant will manufacture products for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that will help with assisted and automated driving.
The new future-oriented greenfield campus will include a production facility, office space, warehouse, guard shack, technical building, and cafeteria. The project will also include campus infrastructure, integral roads, parking, truck docks, and other site requirements. The innovative, edgy design of the facility will integrate with its environmental surroundings and fits the needs of a modern-world production environment. The facility will be a model for energy efficiency and seek LEED® Gold certification upon completion. This will be Continental’s second automotive manufacturing location in Texas and create 580 well-paying jobs with benefits over the next four years.
Nathan Czerniejewski, PE, PMP, General Manager – EPCM, commented on the project, stating, “This project is a collaborative effort between our Automotive and Manufacturing Facilities Business Unit, our Mexico operations, and SSOE Systems, the firm’s construction management business. Our Mexico team’s performance on Continental’s Greenfield Plant of the Future in Central Mexico was key in securing this New Braunfels project, and the same team worked together to support the design on this project leveraging lessons learned to drive efficiency into the design of this facility. We are excited to move from design into construction, offering our field support and on-site construction management services to deliver yet another successful project to Continental.” Czerniejewski serves as the Continental Project Executive and has been involved with projects for the client in the U.S. and Mexico for over 10 years.
During the celebration of construction ceremony attended by company officials, employees, local and state officials, community members, and the design / construction team, representatives from Continental and the City of New Braunfels signed a beam that will be used in the construction of the facility. Construction workers could also be seen working on-site during the event.
LEED compliance is a high priority for Continental. SSOE’s experience completing more than $1 billion in LEED-certified facilities and their vast network of LEED Accredited Professionals helped them formulate a design strategy that fulfilled the client’s sustainability needs and expectations. This included an energy-efficient building shape and innovative solutions in building technologies.
SSOE has extensive knowledge of Continental specifications and project execution preferences and has delivered successful facilities to them for over a decade. A Top 5 Manufacturing Design Firm for the past five years (ENR), SSOE has executed projects in 40 countries and has a resume that includes some of the most recognized names and largest manufacturing facilities in the world.
