Lee Building & 4th Avenue Parking Deck Project Receives AIA Alabama’s Excellence in Design Award
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama, May 20, 2020 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), a global project delivery firm for architecture, engineering, and construction management, is proud to announce that one of their projects has recently been recognized as a 2020 Excellence in Design Award Winner by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Alabama. The Children’s Hospital of Alabama Lee Building and 4th Avenue Parking Deck won an AIA Alabama Excellence in Design Honor Award.
The firm teamed with Williams Blackstock Architects on this project. SSOE provided electrical, security, and voice / data engineering services for the Children’s Hospital of Alabama’s new 120,000 SF, 11-story parking deck with 1,480 spaces, and a 5-story Lee office building. The primary goal of the parking structure was to relieve the parking congestion on campus and allow for future expansion opportunities. The new structure is connected via a pedestrian bridge to Children’s existing Park Place building on 4th Avenue South and connects the new medical office building to the entire campus.
SSOE’s scope for this project included electrical service entrance / utility coordination, interior power distribution, standby power system, interior lighting, central grounding system, voice / data structured premise cabling, overhead paging, wireless network distribution system, audio-video presentation system, intercom system, access control, video surveillance, detention system: monitoring / control and fire detection / alarm.
Children’s is one of SSOE’s longest and largest healthcare clients. They are ranked among the best pediatric medical centers in the U.S. and with over 3.6 million SF, it’s one of the largest pediatric medical facilities in the U.S. SSOE’s Senior Account Executive and Birmingham, Alabama office manager, David Huddleston serves as the main point of contact for Children’s of Alabama.
