TOLEDO, Ohio, July 10, 2017 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), a global project delivery firm for architecture, engineering, and construction management, announced today that three of its employees earned a professional registration and 10 employees earned professional certifications during the third quarter of SSOE’s 2017 planning year. Attainment of professional licensures and certifications is strongly encouraged at SSOE. In fact, the company covers the expense of preparation classes and exam fees as well as provides paid time off to take the exam. As an added incentive, once an employee has passed an exam, they are awarded a recognition bonus.
Registrations
Registered Architect
To become a registered architect (RA), an individual must have a professional degree from an NAAB-accredited program and complete the Intern Development Program (IDP). The IDP is approximately 3 years of on-the-job experience consisting of training units in 16 different categories, such as programming, site and environmental analysis, construction documents, specifications and materials research, and project management. Licensure is awarded upon successful completion of the Architect Registration Exam (ARE), which evaluates an individual’s knowledge, skills, and ability to provide the various services required in the practice of architecture.
Brenda Dean, RA, Architect, recently received her registered architect licensure. Brenda graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture following an Associate of Science in Architecture from Illinois Central College. She has more than 10 years of experience, specializing in restorations, renovations, and new construction, and works in SSOE’s Nashville, Tennessee office.
Professional Engineer
To become a professional engineer (PE), an individual must meet statutory requirements, including completion of a 4-year college degree and a minimum of 4 years of acceptable work experience. Licensure is awarded upon successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam, which measures an individual’s academic and practical knowledge of technical engineering.
Phillip “Tyler” Gay, PE, Mechanical Engineer, recently received his professional engineering licensure. Tyler graduated from the University of Alabama with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering following a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has nearly 10 years of industry experience. He specializes in healthcare, commercial, and education facilities and works in SSOE’s Birmingham, Alabama office.
Deepesh Savla, PE, Structural Engineer, recently received his professional engineering licensure. Deepesh graduated from the University of Southern California with a Master of Science in Structural Engineering following a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from the Veermata Jijabai Technical Institute. He has nearly 5 years of industry experience, specializing in wireless system infrastructure design and analysis, and works in SSOE’s Nashville, Tennessee office.
Certifications
Project Management Professional Certification
PMP® certification, awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI), indicates an individual possesses the knowledge and skill necessary to lead and direct project teams, and deliver project results within the constraints of schedule, budget, and resources.
Allister Dawson, PMP, Designer, recently received his PMP certification. Allister graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has more than 15 years of industry experience. He specializes in construction administration, inspection, and tool install design, and works in SSOE’s Portland, Oregon office.
John Ryan, PMP, Section Manager, recently received his PMP certification. John graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with an Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering. He has more than 10 years of industry experience, specializing in construction and commercial management, and works in SSOE’s Portland, Oregon office.
Interim Master Plans Examiner Certification
Master Plans Examiner certification, awarded by the Ohio Board of Building Standards (OBBS), indicates an individual has met the experience criteria—5 years as a registered design professional in building design and construction—and is permitted to perform the job function of Master Plans Examiner, reviewing all construction documents for code compliance. The Interim Master Plans Examiner certification is temporary, pending completion of exam modules within a 2-year deadline, and indicates an individual has enough professional experience to perform such reviews.
Erin Curley, AIA, NCARB, LEED GA, Architect and LEED® Green Associate, recently earned her Interim Master Plans Examiner certification. Erin graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a Master of Architecture following a Bachelor of Science in Technology from Bowling Green State University. A registered architect with over 10 years of experience, Erin specializes in healthcare, commercial, and education facilities, coordinating projects from schematic design through substantial completion. She works in SSOE’s Toledo, Ohio office.
Construction Manager-in-Training Certification
Construction Manager-in-Training (CMIT) certification, awarded by the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMAA), indicates an individual has successfully completed the CMIT exam and demonstrates competence in the practice of construction management.
Scott Blankenship, Construction Coordinator, recently earned his CMIT certification. With over 20 years of experience, Scott specializes in architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical construction in manufacturing and industrial markets. He works in SSOE’s Nashville, Tennessee office.
Construction Documents Technologist Certification
Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification, awarded by the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), indicates an individual has successfully completed the CDT exam, which measures comprehensive knowledge of the writing and management of construction documents.
Kimberly Hurley, CDT, Project Controller, recently earned her CDT certification. Kim graduated from Wayne State University with a Master of Arts in Library Science following a Bachelor of Arts in English from Oakland University. She has over 10 years of industry experience, specializing in project budgets, schedules, and plans, and works in SSOE’s Troy, Michigan office.
OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Certification
To receive an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Construction Industry certification, each recipient must complete the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Program, which is intended to provide an entry level construction worker with general awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a construction site. SSOE requires the OSHA 10-hour certification for all technical employees.
Jason Achenbach, Senior Mechanical Engineering, recently earned his OSHA 10-hour Construction Industry certification. Jason graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology. With over 10 years of experience, Jason specializes in glass manufacturing and works in SSOE’s Toledo, Ohio office.
Matthew Arnold, Electrical Designer, recently earned his OSHA 10-hour Construction Industry certification. Matt graduated from Anoka Technical College with an Associate of Applied Business in Electrical Industrial Design and has over 25 years of experience. He specializes in commercial design-build project delivery and works in SSOE’s St. Paul, Minnesota office.
Kevin Connolly, PE, Mechanical Design Engineer, recently earned his OSHA 10-hour Construction Industry certification. Kevin graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology. With over 10 years of experience, he specializes in power distribution and works in SSOE’s Cincinnati, Ohio office.
John O’Connor, PE, Mechanical Process Engineer, recently earned his OSHA 10-hour Construction Industry certification. John graduated from the Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has over 10 years of experience. He specializes in manufacturing and works in SSOE’s Midland, Michigan office.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Certification
To receive an OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach certification, each recipient must complete the OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training Course. This course is a comprehensive safety program designed for anyone involved in the construction industry, but more specifically devised for safety directors, foremen, and field supervisors and provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues. SSOE requires the OSHA 30-hour certification for all field and startup employees.
Bruce Ogletree, Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, recently earned his OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry certification. Bruce graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electro-Mechanical Technology following a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Wilberforce University. He has over 20 years of experience and specializes in electrical engineering and process improvements. Bruce works in SSOE’s Toledo, Ohio office.
