PORTLAND, Ohio, October 19, 2020 – Over a month ago, fire erupted and quickly spread and turned into a 173,000-acre blaze that has left over 400 homes burned or badly damaged and at least one person dead. The wildfire, named after the Holiday Farm RV Resort located in Rainbow, Oregon off of Highway 126, began under extremely dry conditions and intense winds and rapidly spread. SSOE’s second-largest office is located in Hillsboro, Oregon, approximately 150 miles from the site of the wildfire.
As of today, the fire is 96% contained and expected to continue to shrink as the seasonal Oregon rains occur. Removal and reconstruction has now begun and the United Way of Lane County is focused on assisting those affected by this wildfire and is addressing the longer-term needs of the displaced communities.
Thanks to the generosity of thousands of individuals and businesses so far, United Way of Lane County has already distributed $414,250 in immediate financial response in the days and weeks following the Holiday Farm wildfire and SSOE was more than happy to contribute $5,000 to assist their vital work.
