TOLEDO, OH March 25, 2009 – SSOE, Inc., one of the nation’s largest architecture and engineering firms, announces three engineering staff members have recently earned LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) by passing the LEED for New Construction Exam. The LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) credential designates that the individual has the knowledge and skills to facilitate the LEED certification process. Ed Gerken, Steve Hess, and Scott Speer have all become accredited and will help SSOE meet the growing demand for green engineering and conservation.
Ed Gerken, PMP, LEED AP, Senior Project Manager, has 25 years of experience and is responsible for project management and the design of food processing and packaging systems. His extensive manufacturing experience includes project and plant management, long-range facility improvements, and the development of improved safety, quality, and cost-reduction programs for clients such as ConAgra Foods, P&G, and Campbell Soup Company. Gerken received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University and his Master of Business Administration degree from Bowling Green State University. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Steve Hess, PE, LEED AP, Mechanical Engineer, has nearly 30 years of experience performing concept and design development, budget / cost estimating, HVAC Refrigeration, and LEED Commissioning Specifications writing for clients such as Toyota, The University of Toledo, and Volkswagen. Hess received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from California Polytechnic State University.
Scott Speer, PE, LEED AP, Senior Civil Engineer, has 20 years of experience performing site development design and engineering analysis for public, commercial, and industrial developments. This includes facilities planning, overall site layout and grading, paving systems, storm water management systems, sanitary sewers, force mains, pump stations, potable water and natural gas utilities for clients such as BMW, Lowe’s, and the US EPA. Speer received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University.
