ATLANTA, Georgia, May 23, 2019 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), an internationally ranked architecture and engineering firm, is proud to announce that the renovation of McKenney’s, one of the largest mechanical contractors in the United States, was selected as a People’s Choice Award recipient in the Interior Architecture/Redesign category by the Georgia chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Georgia).
The People’s Choice Awards are voted on by members of the community online. In order to be eligible for a design award, the project must be the completed work of a registered Georgia architect who lives or does work in the state.
“It’s humbling to receive an honor like this from the community, so we’re very appreciative of their support,” said Janice Wittschiebe, principal, with SSOE. “We certainly take a great amount of pride in this project and are thrilled that we met McKenney’s goals of creating a dynamic new workspace that has clearly resonated with the community as well.”
McKenney’s needed a new workspace to meet a variety of criteria. SSOE’s overall design concept was to renovate the existing building, which served as McKenney’s main entrance and to create a campus-like atmosphere alongside the existing three-story building and an adjacent shop. Additionally, the architecture and design team needed to bring the building up to code, as a significant amount of time had passed since its latest renovation. Lastly, the client knew they needed to change their work environment to hire and retain great employees and address the needs of a changing workforce.
The result was a final design that met all the client’s goals and objectives. SSOE provided space and site planning, programming, architecture, and furniture selection services. New collaboration areas and convenient open break spaces were also added to complete the building’s transformation.
