TOLEDO, Ohio, February 10, 2015 – SSOE Group (www.ssoe.com), a global engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) firm is proud to announce that Ed McConnell, PE, Master Engineer and Senior Associate was named Engineer of the Year by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Toledo Section.
McConnell began his career in 1977 and joined SSOE in 2004. He was named an associate in 2007 and has served as the Chairman of the Tech Masters Strategy Group. He has broad experience on projects involving developing and upgrading power systems supporting clients in petroleum refineries and pipelines, chemical plants, gas plants, and large steel plants. His many contributions to SSOE’s success include helping implement methods to improve cross-discipline coordination and technical training; providing training in arc flash safety; and mentoring co-ops and other staff to help them expand their technical skills.
The IEEE is an international association dedicated to the advancement of technology. The award recognizes contributions to the community and the engineering profession. In addition to his technical career achievements, McConnell continues to play a leadership role on the IEEE Executive Committee. He has worked to broaden representation on the local section Executive Committee and to foster a new generation of leaders in the organization.
McConnell graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1977 from The University of Toledo. He is a published author in both Utility Products Magazine, “The Dangers of Arc Flash to Unqualified Personnel” and POWERGRID International, “How to Conduct Arc Flash Studies”.
