TOLEDO, Ohio, July 28, 2010 – SSOE Group, an international engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) firm, will hold its second annual golf outing on September 18 at Heather Downs County Club (3910 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH) to honor the memory of an electrical engineering intern, Frank Forde Allen. Allen was a Co-Op student interning at SSOE when he was killed in a noontime motorcycle accident while on his way to meet his SSOE co-workers. A native of Willoughby, Ohio, Allen was 23 years old when he died. The Allen family was posthumously presented with Frank’s Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, from The University of Toledo, in December, 2008.
In spite of their loss, the Allen family found a way to turn the tragedy into a benefit for several people who were waiting for organ transplants. According to Nancy Ellis, Community Relations Director at Life Connections, six people received life-saving organ transplants and two individuals had their sight restored with donated corneas.
Proceeds from the outing will go to fund the Frank Forde Allen/SSOE Scholarship Foundation. The foundation aims to provide financial aid to a University of Toledo Engineering Student who either graduated from Willoughby South High School or is a current Co-Op student at SSOE. Cash donations will also be accepted during the outing. Tickets are $65.00 per person and include 18 holes of golf, driving range balls, electric golf cart, and lunch.
In addition, participants receive a small prize for playing. Team prizes will also be awarded for first, second, and third place. Individual prizes are planned for special holes like the longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest putt. Players can also purchase mulligans. A $15,000.00 cash prize will be available to the golfer that gets a ‘hole in one’ on the designated hole. Registration starts at 7:00 a.m. with shotgun beginning at 8:00 a.m.
